portrait of Susan Stine

For over 45 years, Susan Stine has been an interior designer, either a sole practitioner, a partner or as the lead designer in architecture and interiors firms. She has been fortunate to work on a vast range of projects:

  • Challenging a Program of Requirements (POR) for a 350K S.F. new build, supporting the growth of a construction company from $35M to $6B with the design of two headquarters

  • Renovating a 90K S.F. TV station, building two new studios and restacking all the departments while they stayed on the air

  • Designing and specifying a furniture package for a 300K s.f. 12 division military base relocation

  • Creating a new and greatly improved 15K s.f. veterinary clinic with an adjacent day care and boarding facility

  • Collaborating with architects in the design of two 7K s.f new build custom homes

  • Leading the design for many other remodeling projects

  • Designs for remodeled kitchens, furnishing of living space and closet fit-outs

The opportunities of this work allowed for choosing colors and materials to enhance the client’s experience, lighting for both aesthetics and functional illumination, attention to all the partitions and millwork that support the work in the space,

Draperies, light fixtures, hardware, doors, cabinets, rugs, seating tables, oh my! It’s been a joy to practice in a profession that has never stopped changing and becoming more sophisticated, technical and always more interesting.

Ms. Stine is a registered Interior Designer in the District of Columbia and a professional member of IIDA (International Interior Design Association). She has a degree in Interior Environmental Design from Ball State University and has been NCIDQ certified since 1981.

She has been the recipient of awards from IBD (International Business Designers), IIDA and Northern Virginia Chapter of NAIOP.

Additionally, Susan is a professional artist of oil paintings and affiliated with Dragonfly Studio in Washington, DC.

Having met with substantial success red teaming for several recent clients, Ms. Stine delights in its inspiration for her firm’s brand. Red teaming, a project management approach adapted from the defense industry, is a process designed to enhance decision making and avoid surprises. It seeks to help project teams stretch their thinking, challenge underlying assumptions and broaden the range of possible outcomes considered.
